ABOUT US

Hedland Senior High School provides a supportive learning environment in which approximately 720 students have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and understandings to function effectively in society and achieve their individual potential. Set amongst well-established trees and gardens in South Hedland, about 15 kilometres inland from the port, Hedland Senior High School’s multicultural population is reflected in the colourful murals that decorate its walls, courtesy of the Strong Visual Arts Program.

The school offers a broad range of courses from Year 8 through to Year 12 and there have been some outstanding TEE results in previous years with students being awarded Certificates of Distinction and Certificates of Merit. As the majority of students are vocationally oriented, there is a focus on developing appropriate Post-Compulsory options and the school has established strong links with the Pilbara College of TAFE, local business and industry. Year 11/12 VET staff and students are now collocated at the Pilbara TAFE South Hedland Campus.

Individual needs are well catered for with a wide range of support programs in the areas of Education Support, Talented and Gifted, Aboriginal Education, Physical Education and Pastoral Care. Programs are currently being expanded with the implementation of the Pilbara Education Partnership

The school is well resourced with 271 computers available to the students broken down into 4 Laptop trolleys each with 25 laptops in each learning area (Science, SOSE, Maths and English ) and an additional Laptop trolley consisting of 20 laptops for the senior campus.                                                                                             There are  5 computing labs currently operational being  COM23 with 25 computers and 1 Video Editing Machine for Multimedia studies , HE3 with 22 computers and 2 video editing machines , Art21 with 22 computers ,HPE3 with 26 computers and Side Room with 20 computers.  There will be an additional lab of 20 computers when the Library comes back online in the near future.                                                        In addition to the computers we have 3 video conferencing units and 10 data projectors dispersed throughout the deferent learning areas.
